With the COVID restrictions lifted, we wasted no time getting back into the swing of things. Book book swaps to Beatles tributes and the long-awaited production of the Wiz, March was action-packed. As ever, we bring you our monthly highlight reel.

University Fair

Swipe Left

Our Senior School pupils started mapping out their futures at our annual University Fair. Once again fully online, pupils in years 9 to 12 got direct access to admissions officers from over 75 top-ranked schools in more than 20 global destinations. They were able to learn more about what higher education opportunities are available to them as well as what they can do to become more competitive applicants. Our University Fair is the key event in the College’s university guidance programme and is an important annual milestone on our 'Higher Education Pathway’, which provides our Senior School pupils with a structured programme of university and career education, advice and guidance tailored to the needs of their age group.

The Wiz

The show, they say, must go on. And, for our Senior School musical production of The Wiz, on it went! After nearly a year of postponement, our pupils finally took to the stage with this classic re-interpretation of The Wizard of Oz. Dorothy and the gang ‘eased on down the road’ with lots of soulful Motown-inspired music and dance numbers along with spectacular stage effects! In the process, they harnessed their creativity, built confidence, practised resilience and learned the value of teamwork. Bravo!

Annual Review and Governors’ Taster Day

Swipe Left

With COVID restrictions lifted, we once again welcomed our colleagues from Wellington College UK, Wellington College Bangkok and Wellington International as well as our Board of Governors for our annual review and our Governors’ Taster Day. These are important events because they provide independent confirmation that our leadership teams’ school development assessments are accurate. They help us to build and maintain strong standards of quality and provide guidance in the next phases of their respective development plans. In the coming months, we cannot wait to show other colleagues within the global Wellington Family all the exciting things we are doing here at Wellington Shanghai.

World Book Day

Swipe Left

On 23 March, the whole College celebrated World Book Day, a day to remind us all about the importance of the written word. Our younger pupils at the Early Years Centre and in Pre- and Lower Prep showed up to school in the full regalia of their favourite book characters as they enjoyed a full day of book-related activities. In our Upper Prep and Senior Schools, pupils became 'Book Ninjas', leaving books around campus for fellow pupils to discover and enjoy. As always, the centrepiece of this annual observance was our book swap. Pupils from all year groups donated books they have read in exchange for a token that could be redeemed for another previously read book.

Lent Beatles Tribute Concerts

Our Lower Prep through Senior School choirs, bands and orchestras came together in the College for two very special tributes to the Fab Four this month. With a little help from their friends, these talented musicians belted out show-stopping performances of ‘Get Back’, ‘Eleanor Rigby’, ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ and even a sing-along of ‘Let it Be’.

Model United Nations

Swipe Left

After two years of postponement, Wellington hosted its inaugural Model United Nations conference. Over 90 pupils from six different schools participated, including 30 delegates from Wellington. Delegates attended a Security Council, Human Rights Committee, or General Assembly to propose solutions to global issues on the theme of 'conflict'. Attendees discussed the long-running conflicts in Palestine and the Korean Peninsula, as well as the rights of women in the Middle East. It was a golden opportunity for our pupils to put skills like negotiation, communication and diplomacy into practice as they made new friends from other schools in the Shanghai community.

IB Art Exhibit

Swipe Left

Unique Gallery on the Bund hosted our visual artists in the IB Programme for the opening night of their first-ever exhibit. Titled ‘Metamorphosis’, guests enjoyed an evening of live music, canapes and wine among some very stunning works that showcased talent in a wide variety of artistic media.
