President Xi Jinping arrived in Hong Kong on Thursday ahead of the 20th anniversary of the handover and set out his aim to usher the city into a new future, drawing from the experiences of the “extraordinary journey” of the past two decades.

Xi, who is making his first visit since becoming president in 2013, was last in the city in 2008, just before Beijing hosted the Olympic games.

In two days, it will be the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland. This is a significant event and a happy occasion for the country as well as for Hong Kong.

再过两天，就是香港回归祖国二十周年。这无论是对国家还是对香港都是一件大事、喜事。

The central government's delegation and I have come to Hong Kong for three purposes.

我和中央代表团这一次访港，此行主要是三个目的：

First, we convey our good wishes and congratulations on the great achievements attained by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in its 20th anniversary of establishment. We wholeheartedly wish Hong Kong will create new glory.

一是表示祝福，热烈祝贺香港特别行政区成立二十周年取得的巨大成就，衷心祝愿香港再创辉煌；

Second, we want to demonstrate our support. For 20 years, the central government has always given Hong Kong strong backing. The central government will continue to support the development of Hong Kong and its work on improving people's livelihood.

二是体现支持，二十年来，中央一直是香港的坚强后盾，中央将一如既往地支持香港发展、改善民生；

Third, we are to map out* the future. With all sectors of the society, we wish to look back at Hong Kong's extraordinary journey in the past 20 years. Together, we sum up our experience and look forward to the future, to ensure the smooth and long-term success of the “one country, two systems” policy.

三是谋划未来，我们愿同香港各界一道回顾香港二十年来不平凡的历程，总结经验、展望未来，确保“一国两制”行稳致远。

The department has issued a new document mapping out its policies on education.

政府发布了一份新文件，详细阐述了其教育政策。

I look forward to feeling the new mood and changes in Hong Kong after the developments all these years.

I believe that through the series of events to be staged* here, our determination and confidence in developing and building a better Hong Kong will surely be enhanced.
