You think you know everything about this Mandopop king? Well, you may have missed out some parts of his life. Check out some facts about Jay Chou.

Mandopop refers to Mandarin popular music（华语流行音乐）. The English term was coined around 1980 soon after "Cantopop" became a popular term for describing popular songs in Cantonese; "Mandopop" was used to describe Mandarin-language popular songs of that time, some of which were versions of Cantopop songs sung by the same singers with different lyrics to suit the different rhyme and tonal patterns of Mandarin.

· He was a waiter/pianist at a restaurant

Before becoming a singer-songwriter, Jay Chou had no clear idea what he wanted to be. To earn his keep, he started work at a restaurant. With qualifications in playing a piano, he later played music for the customers.

Thus, he was exempted for military service. Unfortunately, many doubted this truth in his early years until he went for a diagnosis again.

· He doesn't like to wear underwear

Jay Chou says wearing underwear is uncomfortable. He admits that he usually does not wear underwear except for concerts. That's because concerts require him to change clothes very often and quickly.

· He grew up in a single-parent family

His parents divorced when he was 13. Jay Chou once said that music was his outlet to vent his frustrations and release stress. He did not believe that children from a single-parent household must be bad. In fact, he is very filial.

This was for his debut in Hollywood. Although Jay Chou mainly concentrated his activities in Asian previously, he had to brush up his English for his first Hollywood role in The Green Hornet. He said he studied his script for 3 hours every single day religiously for one whole month. In the end, even his co-actors were impressed that he spoke with little accent and could act well.
