This year is the Year of the Ox – the same sign as the year of my birth.

The ox symbolizes energy, strength, and courage.

These qualities are what the world needs now.

Last year, the COVID-19 pandemic brought great uncertainty and disruption.

In 2021, we must stand together to fight the virus, take climate action and build a strong recovery from the pandemic.

I thank China and the Chinese people for your continuous support for multilateralism and the United Nations, across all pillars of our work. I look forward to our continuing cooperation.

I send my best wishes to all for prosperity, health and happiness in the Year of the Ox.

This year is the Year of the Ox – the same sign as the year of my birth.

今年是牛年，我也属牛。

今年是牛年，This year is the Year of the Ox. 其中，Ox表示“公牛，阉牛；（泛指）牛”，英文解释为“a bull (= male cow) that has had its reproductive organs removed, used in the past for pulling heavy things on farms, or, more generally, any adult of the cattle family”。

The Ox (牛) is the second of the 12-year periodic sequence (cycle) of animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac related to the Chinese calendar, and also appears in related calendar systems.

The Year of the Ox follows after the Year of the Rat (the first year of the zodiacal cycle) and it then is followed by the Year of the Tiger.
