Chinese Communists are keenly aware that only by integrating the basic tenets of Marxism with China’s specific realities and fine traditional culture and only by applying dialectical and historical materialism can we provide correct answers to the major questions presented by the times and discovered through practice and can we ensure that Marxism always retains its vigor and vitality.

integrate /ˈɪn.tɪ.ɡreɪt/ 1）表示“使合并，使成为一体”，英文解释为“to combine two or more things in order to become more effective”举个🌰：

To uphold and develop Marxism, we must integrate it with China’s specific realities.

Taking Marxism as our guide means applying its worldview and methodology to solving problems in China; it does not mean memorizing and reciting its specific conclusions and lines, and still less does it mean treating it as a rigid dogma.

methodology /ˌmeθ.əˈdɒl.ə.dʒi/ 表示“一套方法；方法论；教学法”，英文解释为“a system of ways of doing, teaching, or studying something”举个🌰：

The methodology and findings of the research team have been criticized.

这个研究小组的研究方法和研究结果受到了批评。

表示“更不用说，更别提”，英文解释为“used to make a negative statement stronger”举个🌰：

At the age of 13 I had never even been on a train, much less an aircraft.

We must continue to free our minds, seek truth from facts, move with the times, and take a realistic and pragmatic approach.

表示“讲究实际的，重实效的；实用主义的”，英文解释为“solving problems in a sensible way that suits the conditions that really exist now, rather than obeying fixed theories, ideas, or rules”举个🌰：

In business, the pragmatic approach to problems is often more successful than an idealistic one.

在商业活动中，解决问题用实际的方法往往比空想更有成效。

一切从实际出发，着眼解决新时代改革开放和社会主义现代化建设的实际问题，

We must base everything we do on actual conditions and focus on solving real problems arising in our reform, opening up, and socialist modernization endeavors in the new era.

不断回答中国之问、世界之问、人民之问、时代之问，作出符合中国实际和时代要求的正确回答，得出符合客观规律的科学认识，形成与时俱进的理论成果，更好指导中国实践。

We must keep responding to the questions posed by China, by the world, by the people, and by the times; in doing so, we should find the right answers suited to the realities of China and the needs of our day, reach conclusions that are compatible with objective laws, and develop new theories that are in step with the times, so as to provide better guidance for China’s practice.

compatible /kəmˈpætəbəl/ 表示“可共存的；协调的；兼容的”，英文解释为“able to exist, live together, or work successfully with something or someone else”举个🌰：

It was when we started living together that we found we just weren't compatible.

等到开始生活在一起时，才发现我们根本合不来。

坚持和发展马克思主义，必须同中华优秀传统文化相结合。

To uphold and develop Marxism, we must integrate it with China’s fine traditional culture.

只有植根本国、本民族历史文化沃土，马克思主义真理之树才能根深叶茂。

Only by taking root in the rich historical and cultural soil of the country and the nation can the truth of Marxism flourish here.

With a history stretching back to antiquity, China’s fine traditional culture is extensive and profound; it is the crystallization of the wisdom of Chinese civilization.

antiquity /ænˈtɪk.wə.ti/ 1）表示“（尤指六世纪以前的）古代”，英文解释为“the distant past (= a long time ago), especially before the sixth century”

2）表示“古物；古董；古迹”，英文解释为“an object that was created a very long time ago”举个🌰：

These maxims, which have taken shape over centuries of work and life, reflect the Chinese people’s way of viewing the universe, the world, society, and morality and are highly consistent with the values and propositions of scientific socialism.

espouse /ɪˈspaʊz/ 表示“投身（活动）；支持，拥护（观点）”，英文解释为“to become involved with or support an activity or opinion”举个🌰：

Vegetarianism is one cause she does not espouse.

她并不赞成素食主义。

📍《经济学人》（The Economist）一篇介绍迪士尼公司执行董事长鲍勃·艾格（Bob Iger）的文章中提到：Mr Iger had no truck with the notion, espoused by some pundits, that xxx. 有些行业权威认为xxx，但艾格从不认可这种观点。
