We have now decided to make a Monthly Updated Column specialized in analyzing those frequently asked questions that bothered you in your visa application.

This article summarizes the inquiries we received in October.

1. How long will it take to enter China for a newcomer?

In the case of a Korean client

Answer:

According to notices published by China’s consulate in Korea, people who withhold work permits and are inoculated with WHO-approved vaccines can enter China within 1 month, as in, they do not need a PU letter.

However, as a PU letter is still a must in most countries, the journey to China will generally take 2.5 to 3 months.

2. Can I apply for a new work visa without a release letter?

A foreign teacher in Guangdong Province

Answer:

Our answer is YES.

However, he will need to go to labor arbitration(劳动仲裁)in the local labor office. The admissibility form he gets works in the same way as the release letter, which can be used to cancel his work permit.

3. Can I apply for my work permit without a bachelor’s degree?

In the case of a client in SH with experiences

Answer:

For appliers in most cities, the answer is YES.

In most cities, you can apply for a work permit with an appointment-based system. For more information, you can read this article:

Except for this way, in a first-tier city like Shanghai, you can apply for a Type B work permit if your salary is 4 times as much as the average salary.

Besides this, you can surely apply for a Type A work permit if your salary is 6 times as much as the average salary. However, it means more tax payment accordingly.

4. How can I apply for a work visa as an English teacher?

An English Client graduated from SISU

Answer:

Requirements of foreign language teachers in China:

  1. Native speaker

  2. Bachelor’s degree or above

  3. More than 2 years of experience in the language teaching field.

However, if you meet one of the following conditions, you can be exempted from the requirement of “2 years of work experience”:

  • Those who have obtained a bachelor's degree or above in education, language, or teaching training;

  • Obtained the teacher qualification certificate in the home country;

  • Those who have obtained a qualified international language teaching certificate like TEFL.

According to our experience, the Foreign Expert Bureau(外专局) considered people from these 7 nations as English native speakers:

The United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, Ireland.

5. Can people from every country get a PU letter and enter China?

Answer:

For appliers from most countries, the answer is YES.

Applicants will need to meet certain requirements (these requirements also apply to their company backgrounds).

But based on our knowledge and experiences, it is quite complicated to apply for a PU letter in India.

6. Can I travel abroad and re-enter China with a valid residence permit and visa?

In the case of a Spanish client in Beijing

Answer:

Though influenced by COVID-19, there still isn’t any official document or policy that clearly states whether residents in China can re-enter after they travel overseas.

For your health and safety, we recommend you to take WHO-recognized vaccines first and double-check if your residence permit is still valid before you travel overseas.

But according to our experience, we have a few Spanish and German clients who left China after being fully vaccinated. They did come back to China following quarantine rules.

7. How can I check if my employer meets the condition of hiring foreigners?

A new graduate in Hangzhou needs a work visa

Answer:

Generally speaking, a company needs to have registered for more than 1 year. Also, a real office address is required (Note: it can’t be a shared office address with other companies).

The case would be different if the company is registered by the client themselves, who are also the legal person or shareholder of the company.
