CNKI Held “Referencing China: Research and Practice” Seminar

On November 18, an academic seminar on "Referencing China: Research and Practice", co-hosted by CNKI and Chulalongkorn University Library, was held in the Central Library of Chulalongkorn University in Thailand.

This seminar is a continuation of CNKI's online warm-up activity in October: "Referencing China: My Research and Recommendations", which aims to deepen the understanding of  Thai university libraries, teachers, students, and librarians towards CNKI resources and facilitate Thai sinology research. It was supported by Chulalongkorn University Library and Confucius Institute at Chulalongkorn University. The activity attracted more than 20 institutions to participate, and the winning institutions were awarded at the seminar.

CNKI representative presents award to the winner of Best Experience Sharing Award


Experts from Chulalongkorn University, Mea Fah Luang Unversity, Rangsit University and other universties in Thailand were invited to share experiences in China-Thailand research achievements and their access to scientific literature. More than 50 teachers, students and librarians from Thai universities also attended the seminar.


The seminar opened with the speech of librarian of Chulalongkorn University Library, who emphasized the impact of China's current development in the world and the importance of Chinese resources, and expressed the hope that Thai scholars could learn more about Chinese academic resources and obtain more comprehensive research information. After the opening, librarian of Rangsit University Library, an associate professor of the Department of Agriculture of Chulalongkorn University, and a teacher of the Chinese Academy of Mea Fah Luang Unversity shared the development and innovation in Chinese education, culture, language, agriculture, economics and library management, as well as the discovery, use and demand for Chinese academic resources. The director of the Chula ASEAN Research Center (former adviser to Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Commerce, and Ministry of Transport) analyzed China’s economic situation under the current world economic outlook, saying that Thailand needed to strengthen economic exchanges with China, economic development required the development of education, and e-learning and e-research should be used to promote the allocation of educational resources.

At the end of the seminar, Claire Feng, general manager of CNKI Global China Studies BU , introduced the current status of China’s scientific and technological development and the increasing influence of Chinese academic achievements in the world, and analyzed the academic value of Chinese academic journals and data resources. Jennifer Lu, CNKI customer manager of Thailand, demonstrated to the delegates the CNKI platform and a series of products, including AcademicReference, China Data Insights, academic journals, e-books, and so on, and systematically explained how to use CNKI platform to quickly discover high-quality academic resources in China.

During the meeting, delegates expressed their desire to establish academic cooperation with Chinese scholars. Some scholars said that they had always wanted to get more academic resources in China but there was no convenient and effective way. And they were surprised by the resource amount and product functions of CNKI, holding that the Chinese and English resources of CNKI would bring great convenience for Chinese academic research.


After the meeting, CNKI representatives visited 20 institutions such as Chulalongkorn University, Mea Fah Luang Unversity and Dhurakij Pundit University, and provided training on the use of CNKI products. Through this visit, CNKI representatives got to know more about the scientific researches and library collections of these institutions, and fully exchanged views with librarians on how CNKI products and services could support their research.
