A new educational vision (and other three poems)

In the end we will have no choice!

We’ll have to free you from the stiff benches!

We’ll have to smash the walls!

We will bring you a shepherd and say:

“From now on he’s your teacher!”

He will play you a soft melody

And will teach you listening to the sounds of Genesis,

To sit upright on the soul

Without partition of chair or benches

And will ask you to memorize: “from ashes to ashes…”

And you will listen to the open melody

And you will know its breadth,

And that there is a beginning for you,

but also, a measured end,

that time is given

but there is no real time.

No Mathematic will teach you the shepherd

Since human lives do not demand precision,

Because if flexibility.

History will not teach you either

Because even though we were taught

We repeated historical mistakes

Again, and again.

You will be taught a life of creation

Weaving hard wood sans for a lace braid

And gives you a reed to carve your own flute

To sanctify poetry and melodies in you.

A simple shepherd we will guide you,

That you may witness the daily miracle

Of the establishment,

To find in you the art of dreaming

Under a tree at noon.

The Blessed Lemon Tree

I’m sitting in the café every morning,

The coffee isn’t that great

and the pastries are less so,

But there’s a big window open to the garden

And in the middle of the garden

A lemon tree

Plump with fruits

Like a pregnant woman,

The lemons are yellow and fully ripe

Like breasts full of milk.

I can’t take my eyes off the lemon tree

And my soul knows the joy of its bounty,

I too have carried such ripeness within me,

The fullness of the body

when I carried babies inside of me.

The coffee isn’t the best

But there’s a garden,

There’s a blessed lemon tree

And I.

A river of sweet waters

No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man.

Tell the child

Who’s playing with paper boats

In the puddle on the street

That the water may appear to him

As the beauty itself,

But then the shallows will come

And he will lose the vision

By which children see,

The ability to witness miracles

And wonders.

Tell the child

To keep floating paper boats

As long as he sees it as a game,

Or perhaps it’s better to warn him

That this game of life cannot be stopped

And that following the current

Is the secret of buoyancy.

In fact... Don’t say a word.

Let him awaken in us

A blind early memory

Of what we once were,

That we will dive into an elusive image

Like a painting by Vermeer,

And within it a child floats a golden boat

In a river of sweet waters.

Central Stations

Sometimes there’s no choice.

You have to use the central station.

This place That takes you from place to place

From existence to existence.

Central Stations,

It has the time to ask you:

Are you?

Do you have? ?

What’s the goal?

The meaning? The purpose?

who’s waiting for you when you return?

It’s a time for contemplation,

It’s a time for thought,

It’s an in-between time

That might unsettle you

And ask essential questions like...

Will you remain the same

when you will cross this sea of people?

Perhaps that’s the reason

 Why people rush in central stations,

perhaps that’s the reason

 for the precise search

for the goal and the direction.

If only the autobus home

Would come quickly.

最终，我们将没有其他选择！

我们必须把你从教条般的状态中解放出来！

我们必须砸碎那些壁垒！

我们会带一个引路人来对你说：

“从现在起，他就是你的老师！”

他会给你演奏柔和的旋律，

并将引导你倾听创世纪的声音。

灵魂端端正正地坐着，

没有椅子或长凳的隔断。

并会要求你记住：“从虚无到虚无……”

你会听到开阔的旋律，

你会知道它的广度，

这对你来说是一个开始，

而且，它也是被掂量过的末端，

被赠予的光阴，

但不是实时运行的。

没有数理（模型）能教你（成为）带路人。

因为具有可变通性，

人类的生活就不甚要求精密度。

历史也不会教你什么。

因为，即使我们得了教训，

我们也会一次又一次地

重复历史错误。

你将被教导去创造生活，

为硬木编织无袖蕾丝穗带。

给你一根芦苇来制作你自己的笛子，

让诗歌和韵律在你心中神圣化。

刚起步的牧羊人，我们将引导你，

让你每天见证

该构建过程中发生的奇迹。

并且，在中午时分，在树下，

你会从自己身上找到做梦的艺术。

神圣的柠檬树

我每天早上都坐在咖啡馆里，

咖啡不是特别的有趣味，

感觉糕点也不那么好吃了。

但是有一扇通向花园的大窗户，

导向花园的中央

的一棵柠檬树。

它结满了饱满的果实，

就像怀孕的妇女一样。

柠檬是黄色的，完全成熟了

就像充满奶水的乳房。

我目不转睛地看着柠檬树，

我的灵魂知道它慷慨的喜悦，

我的内心也曾驮着这样成熟的果子，

当我怀着孩子的时候，

身体变得很丰盈饱满。

咖啡的味道不是最好的，

但是，这里有一个花园，

有一棵神圣的柠檬树，

当然了，还有我。

甜水河

赫拉克利特语录：

没有人会在同一条河里走两次，

因为这不是同一条河，他也不再是同一个人了。

请告诉孩子，

谁在街上的水坑里

有时别无选择，

你必须使用中央车站。

它会带你从这个地方到另一个地方，

中央车站，

它有时候问你：

是你吗？

你有什么？

你期望什么样的结果？

意义是什么？设定的目标是什么？

谁在等待着你的归来？

这需要一段时间来冥想，

这需要一段时间来思考，

这是一段介于两者之间的时间，

那可能会让你感到不安，

会抛出一些重要的问题，比如。。。

你会保持原来的状态吗？

你什么时候能穿过拥挤的人海？

也许，这就是为什么人们涌向中央车站

的原因，

也许，这就是为了目标和方向

而有了精确搜索的原因。

唯有公交车能（带我们）回家时，

速度才会快很多的。

About the author

   Shoshana Karbasi is a poetess, an author of children’s literature, poetry editor and also a professional storyteller, stories from the women’s heritage of Moroccan and Spanish Jewry. Shoshana lives in Jerusalem, she is a mother of five and her home also serves as a literary salon. Her writing deals with the status of women in traditional and modern societies. She Writes social poetry, philosophic poetry and personal poetry. Her poems published in anthologies, magazines and even won the Ministry of education and Culture Award in Israel. Her poems are taught in schools and are part of the culture basket for students. She also writes lyrics in the LADINO languish, Composed for International music Albums by her daughter, the international musician Mor Karbasi.

About the Translator

Lina Moon, a poetess, is mainly engaged in creation of traditional Chinese metrical poetry and modern poetry, poetry translation and poetry review. She is the English editor of two literature groups（magazines）.She has published more than six hundred thousand words in about seventy magazines and newspapers in the United States, China and other places, including all kinds of English works, translation works between Chinese and English. She has won some awards in various poetry competitions, such as the “Renzu Mountain” Cup (Jointly organized by Renzu Mountain Management Committee and the Chinese Poetry Society).

译者简介

林巧儿，女诗人、词人，翻译家，是两个文学团体（刊物）的英文编辑，已在中美等地发表（出版）60多万字的英文作品、翻译作品。她的诗、词、评论等发表在《中华诗词》、《诗选刊》、《深圳日报》英文版、《快乐英语报》、美国双语版《海华都市报》等国内外70多家刊物，多次获得各类诗赛奖项如“人祖山”杯（人祖山管委会与中国诗歌学会合办）等。
