  Day by Day Itinerary

Zhangjiajie Arrival 

Arrive in Zhangjiajie in the later afternoon or evening time (best to take a flight that arrives before 19:00 pm). Your local driver will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your hotel.

The rest of the day is free for you to explore the small town.

Accommodating: A boutique hotel at Zhangjiajie

Yuanjiajie - Tianzi Mountain 

Meet the guide at your hotel lobby at 9:00 am. Then head to the park and take Bailong Elevator, the world's tallest outdoor lift built onto the side of a huge cliff, to reach the Yuanjiajie mountain platform. Enjoy the beautiful scenery during the ride.

Then venture from Yuanjiajie's summit with a 1.5-hour soft hike into the Southern Sky Pillar, which is claimed to be the prototype of the "Hallelujah Mountains" in the well-known film Avatar. 

Have lunch at a local restaurant, KFC, or food vendor at your own expense.

After that, take a shuttle bus to Mt. Tianzi, a typical quarts sandstone landform that is characterized by piles of dense peaks. Visually, the view is different from other parts of the park: the peaks are much thinner and sharper. Since it has the biggest opening platform, we can definitely experience the most spectacular view of the sandstone peak forest.

Then we will take the cableway down and return back to the hotel for a good rest.

Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge and Grand Canyon

-Golden Whip Stream

After breakfasts, explore the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon and Glass Bridge. Walking in the longest and highest glass bridge in the world is truly a challenge for everyone, but also a wonderful experience as you can have a whole view of the Grand Canyon. Don't be afraid of passing through this bridge since you will enjoy the magnificent scenery such as the flying waterfall, the surging river…

In the afternoon, have an in-depth visit with Golden Whip Stream, one of the most beautiful sites in Zhangjiajie. The stream winds its way through the hills and valleys and got its name because of passing by the Golden Whip Rock. Just listen to the murmurs of the stream; stroll along the valley and stop to watch the fish swimming in the crystal clear water.

Sandstone Painting Gallery - Tianmen Mountain - Fenghuang Ancient Town

After breakfasts, visit Tianmen Mountain National Park. Firstly, drive to the cableway base for you to take the cable car up to the top of Tianmen Mountain. With a length of 7,445 meters, Tianmen Mountain cableway is regarded as the longest cableway in the world. The one way cable car ride usually takes about 28 minutes. And the half-hour riding is an excellent chance to see the picturesque scenery of the mountain.

Arriving at the mountain top, you will first pay a visit to Tianmen Temple, the Buddhist activity center in the western Hunan Province built in the Ming Dynasty. Next, you'll take a walk on the vertiginous Skywalk built with transparent glass. For some people, it is really a test of courage! Then move to the Tianmen Cave (Heaven's door cave). This natural stone archway is 131.5 meters high and 57 meters wide. It will take about half an hour to walk through the famous cave. Then, take a shuttle bus down to the mountain foot by the 99-bend Road – the scenic round hill road. 

After lunch, pay a visit to Junsheng Sandstone Painting Gallery to see unique painting arts. Then, you will head to the train station to take 1h high speed train to Fenghuang Ancient Town, reference train: G6433/16:03-17:08.

Arrival in Fenghuang, follow your guide to appreciate the beautiful night view in the town. Fenghuang Old Town was built in 1704 during Kangxi Era of the Qing Dynasty. After 300 years, the town now is a famous national cultural and historical city and enjoys equal fame with Lijiang Ancient City in Yunnan and Pingyao Ancient City in Shanxi.

Fenghuang departure

In the morning, you will take a boat ride on Tuojiang River, the mother river of the ancient town. You can watch the typical Diaojiao buildings on the bank. Diaojiao building is the  traditional dwelling of minorities such as Miao, Zhua3ng, Buyi, Dong, Shui and Tujia. The houses are hanging in the air and supported by wooden pillars.

Then make a stop to admire Wanming Pagoda. Its name is very meaningful. Wan means "ten thousand" and ming means "name" in Chinese, which represents that the pagoda was funded by many kind people. Next, we will cruise down to Hongqiao Wind and Rain Bridge. The attics on the bridge were ruined in the Cultural Revolution and later restored according to the original design. It is over 600 years old now. We can ascend to the second floor to have a panoramic view of the ancient town. Then visit Tuojiang Jumping Rock. This ancient bridge could be dated back to the Tang Dynasty. It is 100 meters long and there are 15 stone piers, on which are thick wooden boards tied with iron chains from the bottom of the river.

Our tour ends in Fenghuang Ancient Town. In the afternoon, you can fly directly from Tongren Phoenix Airport. If you prefer to leave from Zhangjiajie, please buy a ticket after 8 pm. (Contact your consultant to find out how to get to Zhangjiajie)

If you have to cancel your reservation for some reasons

more than 7 days prior to the departure date, the deposit would be fully refunded;

if you cancel 4 to 7 days prior to the departure date, we'll keep a deposit of CNY1,000 as a cancellation fee;

if you cancel 1 to 3 days prior to the departure date, we'll keep 50% of the full trip fee as a cancellation fee and you'll NOT get a refund if you cancel on the departure day.

In case meet with severe weather that poses a risk to people's safety or any government restriction, JoyTravel could cancel the trip up to 1 day in advance, and the trip fee would be fully refunded. Please note that we are NOT responsible for any flight cancellation fees. You should contact the airline company directly to deal with this issue.
