No new coronavirus cases reported in the city




No coronavirus cases were reported in Shanghai in the latest 12 hours as of midday Thursday, said the Shanghai Health Commission.


Meanwhile, another 22 suspected cases have been ruled out, said the commission.


Four patients were discharged upon recovery on Thursday morning.


So far, the city has reported 337 infections and ruled out 2,307 suspected cases.


Among all confirmed patients, aged between 7 months and 88 years old, 144 have traveled or lived in Hubei Province, 34 have traveled or lived in other regions, 158 had contact history with infected persons and one case is undergoing investigation.

What's happening in Shanghai?




No infection among foreigners in Shanghai though health check will be strengthened



Shanghai will continue to strengthen health check on fresh arrivals with novel coronavirus spreading in foreign countries.


Up till now, Shanghai has reported no infections among foreign nationals in the city, though foreigners had been reported in suspected cases, and some had been ordered to impose 14-day quarantine at their residence or in designated hospitals.

Metro stations impose crowd-control measures



Crowd-control restrictions have been implemented in several Metro stations so as to reduce the number of people on platforms and in trains, Shanghai Metro said on Thursday.


During morning rush hour, partition barriers were rolled out in the interchange area of Century Avenue station, where lines 2, 4, 6 and 9 converge.

A confirmed case of COVID-19 in Zhongwei, Ningxia Hui autonomous region has resulted in the quarantine of 63 people in Shanghai who came into close contact with this person, according to a news conference held by the Shanghai municipal government on Thursday.

A renowned Chinese respiratory expert said he believes the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic will basically be brought under control on the Chinese mainland by the end of April.

S.Korea confirms 505 more cases of COVID-19, 1,766 in total



South Korea confirmed 505 more cases of the COVID-19 on Thursday, raising the total number of infections to 1,766, and the death toll rose to 13.


As of 4pm local time (0700 GMT), the number of infected patients totaled 1,766, up 505 from the previous day. The death toll gained to 13 as one more death was reported earlier in the day.

Japan's Abe asks all elementary, high schools to shut amid COVID-19 outbreak



Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said on Thursday that the government will ask all elementary, junior-high and high schools to temporarily close beginning March 2, a couple of weeks ahead of the spring break, in an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country.


At least 894 cases of COVID-19 has been confirmed in Japan as of Thursday morning.


That figure includes 705 cases from the Diamond Princess cruise ship, according to reports.

U.S. confirms possible community spread of COVID-19



The United States on Wednesday confirmed a coronavirus infection in California in a person who reportedly did not have any relevant travel history or close contact with confirmed COVID-19 patients, according to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC.)


The patient's exposure is not known at the moment. It's possible that this is an instance of community spread of COVID-19, said CDC.


There are now 60 confirmed cases in the U.S.
