This is the Classic tour itinerary to visit Lhasa and Everest Base camp. If you are not used to the high altitude, then this is one of the best itineraries that cover the all the Lhasa main tourist sites like Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor street, Dadong village and sera monastery with Gyantse Kumbum and Shigatse Tashi Lhunpho monastery.

Welcome to Lhasa! It can be said that Lhasa is a city with both human and natural landscapes. Lhasa is the capital of China's Tibet Autonomous Region and the political, economic, cultural and religious center of Tibet; it is also the holy land of Tibetan Buddhism. Lhasa is located in the middle of the Tibetan Plateau and the north of the Himalayas, with an altitude of 3650 meters. After arriving in Lhasa, local tour guide will welcome you at the airport/train station, then transfer the guests to the hotel. Acclimatize the high altitude in the hotel.

*Note: we offer free airport pick up service in specific time at 10:00, 13:30, 17:00. Beyond specific time will charge airport pick up fee.

Potala Palace & Jokhang Temple

The tour will begin from UNESCO World Heritage site -Potala Palace, which is also the winter palace of Dalai Lama. It's situated at 12,139 feet above sea level. It's a 13-story high building that contains over 1,000 rooms, various statues, stupas, murals and artifacts.

Then continue to Jokhang Temple, another UNESCO World Heritage site. It’s a spiritual center for Buddhists in Tibet. Next to the temple there is Bakhor Street, filled with pilgrims and street vendors, selling traditional Tibetan items such as prayer wheels and jewelry.

Sera Monasteries & Dadong Village

  • Altitude: 3650m

  • Hotel: In Lhasa Downtown

In the morning, tourists are going to visit Dadong village, a traditional Tibetan village with no tourists visiting monastery, family visit in the village, experience the local lives.

Dadong Village, Located in the hidden valley in the southwest corner of Lhasa, as one of the best protected and most complete Tibetan ancient villages in Tibet, there are Nimatang Temple and White Temple with a history of nearly 2000 years, as well as the ancient manor where Tsangyang Gyatso once lived, together with the local original Tibetan houses, simple folk customs and ancient legends, which make this thousand-year-old village exude unique charm.

Afternoon, Sera Monastery---It was one of the “three great” Gelug monasteries of Tibet and was founded in 1419. The highlight is the Monks debate at around 3 - 5 in the afternoon.

Lhasa - Yamdrok Tso - Shigatse

  • Altitude: 3900m

  • Hotel: In Shigatse Downtown

  • Distance: 360kms, about 7hrs

Drive from Lhasa to Gyantse. Admire the Gampala pass (4790 m) on the way, and get a glimpse of Yamdrok-tso (4400m), which is surrounded by many snow-capped mountains. Then continue to drive west towards Gyantse. In Gyantse, tourists will visit the famous Pelkor Monastery and Gyantse Kumbum. After one and a half hour's drive, clients will arrive in Shigatse, which is the second largest city in Tibet.

Shigatse - Rongbuk Monastery

  • Altitude: 5154m

  • Hotel: Dorm or Big Tent

  • Distance: 340kms, about 6-7hrs

Drive to Lhatse where tourists can take lunch. Then drive to Shegar and if the weather is clear enough, tourists can view the Mt. Everest in the distance on the way back down. After 4 to 6 hours, arrive at Rongbuk monastery, but on the way there, clients will pass Pang la Pass, one of the highest passes in Tibet at 5050m. From that pass, enjoy view all of the five highest peaks in the world.

Everest Base Camp - Shigatse

  • Meals: B

  • Altitude: 3900m

  • Hotel: In Shigatse Downtown

  • Distance: 340kms, about 6-7hrs

In the morning, you can see the sunrise of Everest Peak if weather permits at the lodging area. Then we will visit the Rongbu Monastery - the unique highest monastery with nuns and monks living together. Finally, we will drive back to Shigatse.

Shigatse - Lhasa

  • Meals: B

  • Altitude: 3650m

  • Hotel: In Lhasa Downtown

  • Distance: 270kms, about 4-5hrs

Today, explore Tashilunpo monastery of Gelug Sect, the seat of the Panchen Lama, built in 1447. The monastery houses a giant statue of the Maitreya Buddha - the biggest gilded statue of Maitreya (Buddha of the future) in the world and a tomb of all the Panchen Lama, containing jewels and gold. In the afternoon, you will drive back to Lhasa, which will take around 6 hours.

3. Then the balance will be paid when you arrive. (Note: The balance needs to be paid 7 days before departure if your trip is just in the official Chinese holiday. E.g. Chinese New Year, Labor's Day, National Day)

If you have to cancel your trip for some unexpected reasons, we have the following policies:
1. FULL REFUND at least 5 days before departure date. (Note: except the cost of service fees paid for the third party, such as flight ticket refund service fees)2. FULL REFUND if there is no flight and train to arrive resulted from extreme weather or government restrictions.


If the trip is cancelled due to severe weather conditions or any government restriction, full refund will be offered.

Travel Tips

a)1-2 pairs of durable shoes, mid-weight (may-sep) waterproof clothes (dress in layers); hat (to prevent from ultraviolet ans strong wind); high-quality socks

b)Sun block SPF 50+, lip balm SPF 50+, moisturizing skincare products, anti-bacterial hand sanitizer, wipes, feminine products, shaving products;  (for 1 night in Rongbuk: travel size soap and shampoo, toothbrush and tooth paste, disposable towel, ear plugs, etc)

c)Original passport, basic medicines, waterbottle, camera, energy snacks, power bank, books, etc

High Altitude Sickness

The average altitude of Tibet is about 4000meters above the sea level (Lhasa: 3650m; Shigatse: 3900m; EBC: 5154m;). You may suffer from High Altitude Sickness in the beginning days of your Tibet trip. But don’t worry too much, the high altitude can be acclimatized usually in 2~3 days. Our suggestion is to take a physical examination and get suggestions from your doctor, and alsostart taking medicines ( Hongjingtian) to prevent from High Altitude Sickness one week before your trip and keep taking until the end of the trip. While in Tibet, you should keep warm all the time, avoid running, drink more water and eat more vegetables and carbohydrates.We suggest you to not take showers during the first two days after your arrival at Tibet. If you don’t feel well, get help from your tour guide or go to the hospital without any delay.
