刊物简介

      《道家研究前沿》是英文学术期刊，由世界道家联谊会出版，每年一期。该杂志刊登原创性论文、评论文章和书评，内容涵盖道家研究的所有领域，特别是该领域的最新学术成果。来稿将由同行专家匿名评审。所有来稿必须是原创成果，请勿一稿多投。

格式要求

        稿件应符合《芝加哥编辑手册》第16版的格式要求，一些基本要求如下：

        1. 封面页应包含：作者姓名，文章标题，作者工作单位和地址，作者的电子邮箱、电话号码。

         2. 正文页标题下不再标署作者姓名，以便进行匿名评审。

        3. 文章（包括表格、脚注、参考文献）通常不得超过10000字。请提供150－200字的摘要，3－6个关键词。正文使用10号Times New Roman字体，页码自动生成，每段段首请使用“首行缩进1字符”。

        4. 中国的人名、地名请用不带音调的汉语拼音标注，除非某些韦氏拼音或其他标注法已经广为人知（如：成中英Chung-ying Cheng），引文和题目中的其他标注法也无需改动。必要时可辅以中文汉字。

        5. 文中首次出现中国特有的术语、中文的文章标题或书名时，格式请参照：Non-Interference (Wuwei 无为); “On the Main Points of the Six Schools” (“Lun Liujia Yaozhi” 论六家要旨); History of Chinese Daoism (Zhongguo Daojiaoshi 中国道教史)。接下来再次使用时可以自行选择英语或拼音标注法，但通篇应该保持一致。

        6. 文中首次出现的引文，请在脚注中详细标出作者、书名或篇名、出版信息、页码，如：Joseph Needham, Science and Civilisation in China, Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1954, 123. 以后再出现同书或同篇的引文时，只需在正文中的引文后括号标注作者、时间和页码，如：(Needham 1954, 128)，不能只简单地用p.或pp.标出页码。单独析出的大段引文请设置“左缩进2个字符，段前段后1行”。

         7. 文章题目的脚注不编序号，正式出版时会加上作者简介（包括姓名、单位、电子邮箱）。正文的脚注序号整篇连续编号。连续两条脚注出处相同时，下一条脚注可以用“ibid. 页码”标注。

        8. 参考文献：所有被引用的材料都必须列在参考文献中，并且只有文中已经引用的材料才能被列在参考文献中。参考文献按照作者姓氏首字母排序，注意：国外作者的姓名要调整成“姓在前、名在后，中间以逗号隔开”的格式，同时存在多位作者时只需调整第一位作者的姓名，其他作者的姓名保持正常顺序。参考文献列在文末，悬挂缩进1个字符，示例如下：

Instructions for Submissions

Frontiers of Daoist Studies (FDS) is a fully refereed English-language academic journal published two issues annually by World Fellowship of Taoism. The journal publishes original research articles, review articles, and book reviews covering nearly all main branches of Daoism, especially those reflecting new developments in the field. Articles will be reviewed anonymously by external referees. Submitted manuscripts must be original, and must not be submitted simultaneously to any other publication outlet.

Submissions are expected to follow the style recommended in The Chicago Manual of Style, 16th edition. Some basic guidelines are as follows:

1. The title page should include:

• A concise and informative title

• The name(s) of the author(s)

• The affiliation(s) and address(es) of the author(s)

• The e-mail address, telephone and fax numbers of the corresponding author

2. For use in the review process, do not include author(s) name(s) in the text or page header.

3. Articles manuscripts, including tables, notes, and references, should normally not exceed 10,000 words in length. An abstract of 150–200 words and 3–6 keywords should be provided. 

• Use a normal, plain font (e.g., 10-point Times New Roman) for text.

• Use the automatic page numbering function to number the pages.

• Use tab stops or other commands for indents, not the space bar.

4. Use pinyin without tone/diacritical marks to denote names of Chinese people and geographical locations, and non-pinyin spellings should be used only either in the cases where Wade-Giles or other transliterations have been widely adopted (e.g., Chung-ying Cheng), or in quotations or titles. Chinese characters can be provided if necessary.

5. Chinese terms and titles of Chinese texts, on their first appearances in the text, should mainly be written in the following format: English translation (pinyin characters), e.g., Non-Interference (Wuwei 无为); “On the Main Points of the Six Schools” (“Lun Liujia Yaozhi” 论六家要旨); History of Chinese Daoism (Zhongguo Daojiaoshi 中国道教史). The subsequent appearances should be either in English or in pinyin, and the style should be consistent throughout the article.

6. Citations 

The full citation of a source may be given in a note at first mention, eg. Joseph Needham, Science and Civilisation in China (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1954), 123. The subsequent citations should be made parenthetically in the text, following the author–date–page format, for example, (Needham 1954, 128). Do not use the abbreviations p. or pp. to designate page numbers. A block quotation may be indented 2 characters left, put one line before and after it.

7. Footnotes 

Footnote on the title page are not given reference symbols. It will be a brief biographical note on the author(s) when it is published. Footnotes to the text are numbered consecutively. The abbreviation ibid. could be used to refer to a single work cited in the note immediately preceding.

8. Bibliography

All cited literature must be listed in the Bibliography, and all listed literature in the Bibliography must be cited. 

Bibliography list entries should be alphabetized by the last names (surnames) of the first author of each work, or by title for sources without authors. Do not abbreviate a name given in full. To cite a book by two or three authors, reverse only the name of the first author, and give the other name or names in normal form. 

Capitalize the first word and all other principal words of the titles and subtitles of cited works listed. 

Bibliography at the end of the text should be listed in the following format:

9. The sources of financial support for the research, and the contributions of colleagues or institutions should be acknowledged. Acknowledgements should be provided between the text and the bibliography.

10. Manuscripts should be submitted via e-mail in MS-Word (.doc/.docx) format to leajuan@163.com, or to submissionfds@163.com. Submissions of hard copies should be accompanied by a disk copy saved in Word format.

Additional information for Book reviews

At the top of the book review, the information of the book being reviewed should be provided in such an order: “Last Name, First Name [of the author of the book], Title of the Book [being reviewed]. City: Publisher, Year, (xx+) xxx pages.” If the book is in Chinese, provide Chinese characters for the name of the author, the title of the book, and the place and the name of the publisher. 

The normal length of a book review is between 1500 and 2000 words. 

Authors should follow the style of the Journal, with the exception that no footnotes and reference list are used in book reviews. 

Particularly, 

(a) please provide Chinese characters (traditional instead of simplified ones) for names of Chinese persons, places, and publishers, titles of Chinese publications, as well as special philosophical terms; 

(b)Use hanyu pinyin as Romanization system, except in quotations, which shall follow whatever Romanization system is used; 

(c) Citations of and/or references to the book reviewed shall be parenthetically inserted in the main text with page number only. References to other sources should be parenthetically inserted in the text with the complete information.

Review author should try to strike a balance, in their reviews, between the overview of the contents of the book and the evaluation of its merits and/or demerits. Praises and criticisms should be made as objectively as possible. 

Unsolicited submissions of reviews are considered but not guaranteed for publication. Pre-arranged reviews are normally published, provided that the review authors are willing to make revisions if suggested by our book review editors.
