Residence permit registration can finally be done online!

Follow us ➤ AnyVisa 2020-08-28

Foreigners arriving in China need to register at their local police station within 24 hours of arrival. Registration is a prerequisite with the PSB Exit-Entry Division, an application for a new visa, stay certificate, residence permit or departure from China.

This applies whether you are in China as a tourist, student or even as a worker with a residency permit. Normal temporary registration procedures require going to your nearest police station, waiting in line, taking your passport, lease agreement, residential deed, and to speak to a PSB officer. But recently Shanghai has launched "Self-Help Declaration System For Overseas Personnel's Accommodation Registration," which allows you to register online.

AnyVisa Reminds You

1. This system is open only for foreigners who live in Shanghai. Foreigners living in other cities in China cannot use this system for declaration.

2.  For foreigners living in hotels, the hotels will make declaration when checking in, so there is no need to do the online declaration again.

3.  If you fail to declare through this system, please go to the local police station to declare.

Step 1: Sign Up / Log In

Click HERE to access your account.

Step 2: Fill In Details

You only need to upload an image of the photo ID page in your passport, and the system will automatically fill out the blanks for you. You can add or correct anything as need be.

The address system is a slight pain in the butt, due to the interminable difficulty in translating complex Chinese address into English ones. Do your best.

Step 3: Check Your Email

Wait 5-10 minutes for a confirmation email after processing.

Step 4: Download Your Registration Form Of Temporary Residence

Go back on the website for the QR code to "preview" (download), email or share a PDF of your form, with the chop filled in for you.
