Can I work in China on other visas?

This is not allowed.  

A foreign woman recently entered China for the first time on a tourist visa, but the Kunming border control agency found that her physical appearance did not match her passport registration age. Not only that, the foreign woman was carrying a large amount of luggage and a false return ticket.

After questioning by the police, the foreign woman admitted that she was only 17 years old and that the purpose of entering China was to stay and work. She was eventually denied entry.

According to the law,

foreigners working in China shall obtain work permits and work-type residence permits in accordance with the relevant provisions. No unit or individual shall employ a foreigner who has not obtained a work permit or a work-type residence permit.

What constitutes

illegal employment?

Work in China without obtaining a work permit or a work-type residence permit in accordance with regulations;

Work in China beyond the scope of the work permit;

#3

Foreign students who violate the regulations on the administration of work-study and work in China beyond the prescribed post scope or time limit.

In other words, even if the foreign woman in this case did not falsify her age, she still wanted to work illegally in China, because she did not obtain a work visa in accordance with the regulations.
