Shanghai revokes a bar’s business license after it violated anti-epidemic regulations and caused cluster infection.

A bar in Shanghai’s Yangpu district lost its business license and received a fine for not implementing anti-epidemic measures and causing the spread of COVID-19 with severe consequences.

The district’s government released the announcement on Thursday saying that, between July 1 and 3, the Dehao Bar did not supervise its employees to ensure they took nucleic acid tests every day, failed to ask customers for a negative test result within 72 hours and did not take their temperature.

The business license of the bar will be revoked and a fine will be imposed in accordance with relevant regulations including China’s Administrative Punishment Law and Emergency Response Law. Related individuals will be held responsible on different levels which depends on the severity of the infection they caused.

Shanghai’s Fengxian district on Thursday placed four entertain venues, including three karaoke bars, under investigation and sanction. The four bars were open to customers despite the operation ban.

Shanghai reported 47 positive cases within the quarantine zones on Wednesday. A city’s official said on Sunday that more than 200 local infections were reported in Shanghai since July 3, most of which were related to the outbreak in a karaoke bar in Putuo district, adding that karaoke bar and pubs have sped up the transmission due to confined spaces and large people gatherings.
