Outstanding University Offers

Many of our 2021 Wellington College China pupils were courted by the world's top universities. Among those pupils who have so far received their university offers: 

Almost 30% received at least one offer 

from a top 10 University

Nearly 40% received offers 

from a top 20 University

Nearly 70% of these pupils received offers 

from the world's top 50 universities   

Receiving offers from every G5 university – including Oxford and Cambridge  

This year, Wellington College China pupils have achieved the considerable feat of securing offers from each of the elite G5 universities. The G5 is a grouping of five universities in the UK known for their outstanding research and educational provision. These universities include The University of Oxford, The University of Cambridge, University College London(UCL), Imperial College London and London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). 

Many leavers had offers from more than one of these universities.  

* Eric, from our sister school in Tianjin, received offers from the University of Oxford(Biochemistry),  University College London and the University of Edinburgh

* Ted, from our sister school in Tianjin, received offers from the University of Cambridge (Mathematics) and Imperial College London 

Top acceptances from US universities – including the Ivy League 

Many Wellington College China leavers decided to continue their education in the United States. A similar set of impressive results were achieved with offers from universities in the top 10 QS ranked universities as well as the  Ivy  League universities for the second consecutive year.

* Maggie, from our sister school in Shanghai, received an offer from the University of Chicago (Maths/Music double major) 

Wellington College China’s impressive results were certainly not restricted to the UK and the US. As in previous years, Wellington College China leavers received offers from many of the world’s top universities, including those in Canada, Singapore and Hong Kong, China. 

Excellence in the Arts 

In addition to achieving excellence in traditional academic subjects, many Wellington College China  leavers received offers from the world's top institutions for the creative and performing arts. They successfully gained entry to study a wide variety of courses such as music, art, design and architecture. Top institutions include Berklee College of Music, University of The Arts London and the famed Glasgow School of Art.

Record-breaking Examination Results

The results are out for IGCSE, IB and A Level examinations, and our Wellington College China pupils have once again achieved record-breaking achievements. 

Outstanding IGCSE results 

50% of Wellington College China pupils achieved A* (8/9) grades in their IGCSE exams. 80% of them earned A*/A (7,8,9) grades.  

Record-breaking A Level achievements 

50% of Wellington College China pupils achieved A* grades in their A Level exam. 

A top IB score of 45 

Wellington College China pupils earned an average score of 38.1 in their IB examinations. This is well above the global average of 33.02. Moreover, a full 40% of them achieved a score of 40+. The top score was a 45 out of 45, a feat only achieved by 1.5% of all candidates globally. 

Dedicated University Guidance

These successes are the result of the perseverance shown from every Wellington College China pupil, as well as our dedicated academic staff and our professional university guidance team. 

Members of our university guidance team — graduates from the world's top universities themselves — are equipped with the specialist knowledge and experience to help guide our pupils along the path to higher education. Starting early in their secondary education, we work with each pupil to identify their skills and interests. They receive ongoing counselling on cultivating the attributes that universities value. We teach them to think strategically when choosing their coursework and preparing for their admissions exams. Moreover, our team stays current on the ever-changing admissions requirements at the world's best universities. Whether conducting mock interviews for Oxbridge or coaching them on how to write an effective personal statement, we are with our pupils every step of the way in the application and admissions process, ensuring that they get the higher education they want and deserve.
