Meet the Master | Huili School Nantong

Huili School Nantong is scheduled to open in September 2022, and you can find out more about it in a session with the  school’s  Founding Master, Mr Simon Kenworthy. He will be addressing interested parents on 23  October, joining us live from the UK to tell us more about this incredible project that you could be part of. Also speaking will be Mr Jamie Plunkett (Head of Primary) and Ms Suisui Yu (Principal) to explain in greater  detail the benefits of  a  Huili bilingual  education that  follows the Chinese National Curriculum and draws from the best  aspects of a Western education.

Paul Rogers

Executive Master 

Wellington College China

Paul Rogers was Founding Principal of Taylor’s International School Puchong, Malaysia for three years before coming to China as Founding Master of Wellington College Hangzhou in 2017. He is currently overseeing new school projects within Wellington College China as well as co-ordinating this academic year’s Festival of Education and overseeing future Arts Festivals. 

Paul will introduce the history of  Wellington College China and the story behind  Huili  School Nantong, as well as Wellington College China’s Vision, Identity and Values.

Simon Kenworthy

Founding Master

Huili School Nantong  

Simon is from the United Kingdom and has a background in mathematics and sport, gaining a BSc from Birmingham University and a PGCE from Durham University. After qualifying as a teacher, Simon initially taught in two top independent schools in the UK before moving abroad to become Head of Maths and Sport at The Banda School in Kenya. From there, his journey took him to the UAE where he was involved with the start-up of Brighton College Abu Dhabi as Deputy Head and then Cranleigh Abu Dhabi, where he was Headmaster of the Prep School. His experience in leading two teams through the early stages of school development will prove hugely advantageous as Huili School Nantong begins to take root.  

Simon will lead us to have an overview about  Huili School Nantong. He will introduce the facilities, class, teachers, and other information in detail.

Suisui Yu

Suisui Yu is a passionate educator with 20 years of teaching and leadership experience. Before joining Wellington College China, she served at different bilingual and public schools,  gaining  a  wealth  of  experience in  the Chinese National Curriculum, IGCSE and A-level.  Suisui was the founding member of two well-known bilingual schools, served as Founding Secondary School Principal, Head of Year Groups and Head of Maths. Prior to that, she was an inspector at Shanghai Jing’an  Education College responsible for Primary mathematics teaching quality and teacher training within the district.  Suisui participated in and won a number of district and municipal mathematics teaching competitions in the public education sector. She was deeply involved in the Second Phase of Shanghai Curriculum Reform Programme and was responsible for facilitating curriculum reform across the municipality. Suisui holds a bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics and a master’s degree in International Higher Education. Her current role is to develop and assure the quality of Chinese components of the curriculum for Wellington College China’s bilingual schools. She also plays a central role in establishing effective working relationships with the local education system.  

Suisui will talk to you about the curriculum, the unique points of Huili Bilingual education and our educational philosophy. 

Our head of primary, Mr Jamie Plunkett, and Deputy of boarding, Ms. Heather Penny-Larter will also join us on that day. 

Mr Plunkett holds a bachelor’s degree and PGCE in Computer Science from The University of Brighton. He has worked as a teacher, Student Director and Vice  Chancellor in the UK and UAE.   

Heather Penny-Larter, also from the United Kingdom, holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and  a  PGCE in English.  Heather has over 30 years of experience in teaching English and she also worked as a Senior Examiner for the AQA Examination Board at GCSE Level.  In 2018, she moved to China to work as a dormitory supervisor at a bilingual school in Beijing.
