What makes our team so strong?

With last year’s distance learning and then our summer break, the Huili Shanghai campuses have been uncharacteristically quiet for longer than normal. That makes the return to school and nursery an even greater cause for celebration. We warmly welcome our new and returning teachers and are ready for the 2022-23 academic year!

Stable and high-quality teaching teams

We continue to grow our team with highly-quality educators from around the world. Our standards are high, and we recruit based on skills, experience and how candidates’ values align with ours.

Highly-quality teachers lay the foundation for excellence in education. Our teaching team has an average of 11 years of experience. Nearly 40% have a master’s degree or higher from top-tier national and international universities. They bring to our nursery a global outlook, rich teaching experience and a deep understanding of Huili’s pedagogy.

Having a stable team ensures that we maintain high teaching standards. Our turnover rate is consistently lower than the industry average. For the past two years, our average teacher retention rate has been 85% in our nursery. We start this new academic year with a 100% retention rate among our Senior Leadership Team.

Continued Professional Development (CPD)

“Lifelong learning and development is our commitment to our staff and pupils,” says Wellington College China Founder and Chairman Joy Qiao, “just like our common goal — to become the best version of ourselves and show our true colours, as well as our vision to become the best bilingual education group in the world.”

Supporting staff development is the key to ensuring that we provide a quality education as well as non-academic services. We, therefore, spare no effort in supporting our staff’s professional development.

Wellington College China Course Directory, now in its second year, will provide high-quality CPD programmes in the new academic year

We closely follow emerging trends, theories and innovative practices in education. This informs how we design our annual CPD course directory, which features a broad range of programmes for our teaching staff and nursery leaders. Our course offerings are key to our talent development strategy and are an important part of what keeps us at the forefront of the education industry.

The results bear out in a recent staff survey as well. During the 2021-22 academic year, 98% of our staff said that they think Huili Shanghai supports an orderly learning environment. Over 92% said that they are provided with high-quality training to facilitate their professional development.

Moreover, our employees are not the only ones who notice. For two years in a row, HR Asia, the region’s most trusted publication about the HR industry, has presented Wellington College China with its ‘Best Employers to Work for in Asia’ award. This is a testament to the value we place on every member of the group.

A sense of community

A community culture of mutual respect and support creates the fertile soil in which our employees can thrive. So, whether it is competitive salaries, generous health insurance packages (for staff and their families), long vacations or annual airfare for our foreign employees, we want to make sure our employees and their families feel well cared for.

The Huili Community's support during the pandemic earlier this year has built strong bonds between pupils, parents and teachers. Together, we are stronger, more resilient and ready to face new challenges without fear.

▲A caring Huili community

Our teachers are a collaborative community in their own right. Recognising the importance of staying up to date on the latest ideas and technology, they regularly take part in research activities together.

For instance, we held our second annual Wellington College China Chinese Teacher Conference this summer. We also established an online communication platform for all Wellington Chinese teachers. Both have created massive opportunities for collaboration across our entire group of schools.

Finally, we would like to express our sincerest gratitude to all teachers in honour of Teachers’ Day. This past year has been a challenge for all educators, and your hard work and dedication have made a big difference in our pupils’ lives. As we usher in the 2022-23 academic year, we are confident that you will bring the same dynamic energy once again to in-person learning. We look forward to a year of growth and success.
