King Maha Vajiralongkorn, commonly known as Rama X, reportedly marked Sineenat Wongvajirapakdi's 36th birthday this week by crowning her queen.

This would make her Thailand's second queen, alongside the king's fourth wife Queen Suthida.

German publication Bild claims Wongvajirapakdi's promotion was due to take place during a ceremony on Tuesday. However, an official announcement has not been made.

Earlier in the day, the couple made a public outing in Bangkok, releasing fish and birds in a Buddhist ceremony.

The king named Wongvajirapakdi, a former army nurse, his royal consort on his 67th birthday in July 2019.

Queen Suthida, who had married the king just two months earlier, sat next to her husband during the proceedings.

Bild claims she is "humiliated" by this week's developments.

Wongvajirapakdi was the first woman to receive the title of Royal Consort in almost a century. However, the experience hasn't all been smooth sailing for her.

In October 2019, King Rama X stripped her of her rank and titles for "misbehaviour and disloyalty against the monarch."

This included attempting to elevate herself to "the same state as the queen", an official royal announcement explained.

Wongvajirapakdi's title was reinstated in September 2020, but there was more controversy three months later when sexually explicit photos were reportedly stolen from her phone and leaked.

It was said the leak was 'revenge porn' intended to sabotage her return to life as the king's consort.
