chà bu duō

We all know that Chinese people don't tallk in an implicit way, and use 'almost, maybe' these words a lot. Those are more polite  expressions but seem very confusing. So today Miss C is going to show you what these sentences mean and how to use 'almost, maybe'.

• Time flies, it is Friday now.

• 这个星期差不多结束了。

• zhè gè xīng qī  chà bù duō jié shù le.

• Oh!!! This week is almost over!

  
  

1.  Almost, nearly

• 现在差不多9点半了。

• Xiàn zài chà bu duō jiǔ diǎn bàn le.

• Now it’s almost half past nine.

   

• 去厦门的飞机票差不多600块。

• Qù shà mén de fēi jī piào chà bu duō liù bǎi kuài.

• The flight to Xiamen is around 600 RMB.

  
  

• 我差不多好了，再给我1分钟。

• Wǒ chà bu duō hǎo le, zài gěi wǒ yì fēn zhōng.

• I’m almost ready, please give me a minute.

  
  

     2. About the same, similar

• A跟B差不多。

• A gēn B chà bu duō.

• A is similar to B.

• It’s incorrect to say A 差不多B.

  
  

• 今天跟昨天差不多，都很凉快。

• Jīn tiān gēn zuó tiān chà bu duō, dōu hěn liáng kuà.

• Today is almost as cool as it was yesterday.

  
  

• 这两款手机看起来差不多！

• Zhè liǎng kuǎn shǒu jī kàn qǐ lái chà bu duō!

• These two phones look almost the same.

• 弟弟跟我差不多高。

• Dì di gēn wǒ chà bu duō gāo.

• My brother is almost as tall as me.

  
  

• 这两条路远近差不多。

• Zhè liǎng tiáo lù yuǎn jìn chà bu duō.

• The distance is the same to either road.

  
  

      3.More or less

• 我差不多已经把这本书全看完了。

• Wǒ chà bu duō yǐ jīng bǎ zhè běn shū quán kàn wán le.

• I've more or less finished reading the book.

  
  

• 现在这件事差不多定下来了。

• Xiàn zài zhè jiàn shì chà bu duō dìng xià lái le.

• It is now more or less settled.
