Unbelievable! Foreign credit cards can be used on WeChat!

Good news

Tencent announced that from July this year, overseas tourists can link international credit cards issued by visa to WeChat.

Ant Group also said Alipay, the most widely used payment system, comes from foreign cards on all major international card networks, including Visa, mastercard, Diners Club International and Discover.

The service will be simplified with no need to create a prepaid account or get a Chinese phone number.

Previously, foreigners had to open a bank account in China to use the domestic payment system. Doing business in China is challenging because most stores in the country do not accept cash.

How to addan international credit card

on WeChat?

Open WeChat → “MY”(right below) → “Services”

→ “Wallet” → ”Cards”

→ “Add a Card” 

(Add your international credit card)

→ Fill in your information

(Name, Card No.)

→ Fill in the card information (Validity, CVV Code, Billing Address)

→ Confirm the newly added credit card in your digital wallet

Are there any other restrictions?

Since the international credit card function of WeChat Pay is still in trial, not all payment functions can be used.

Users can try WeChat Pay for

a variety of transactions,

including but not limited to:

1. Transfer money to friends

2. Online Shopping

3. Top up your mobile

4. Pay utilities

5. Purchase bus tickets, train tickets, and air tickets

6. Book a hotel

7. Buy movie tickets

8. Invest in wealth management funds
